Activists call for a boycott of Chevron due to claims about Israel during rising gas prices

Activist Group Targets Chevron with Boycott Campaign

A radical group is launching an aggressive campaign against Chevron, sharing guides and maps on how to disrupt the oil company.

This far-left, pro-Palestinian coalition, identified as the US Campaign for Palestinian Rights, is specifically aiming to take down hundreds of Chevron locations across California.

They have been organizing protests outside gas stations and are urging residents to boycott the corporation due to its involvement with Israel’s energy resources linked to oil production.

“With Israel targeting shelters and educational institutions in Gaza, and the U.S. intervening in Venezuela, we can’t keep fueling the conflict,” reads a statement from the group’s website.

The group is comparing Chevron to a “genocidal and war profiteer,” similar to how the Palestinian Solidarity Movement portrays Israel.

Chemron Stations Inc. operates around 300 private-label stations in California, Washington, and Oregon, with the majority in California itself.

While California has about 1,900 Chevron-branded service stations, it’s worth noting that over 95% of these locations are independently owned and operated.

Activists have provided maps pinpointing locations they allege are owned directly by Chevron, rather than independent operators, and are effectively encouraging boycotts against these specific sites.

The maps feature various targeted facilities, including sports teams and universities like the University of Southern California, which the group claims are connected to Chevron.

Alongside boycotting gas stations, the group is sharing strategies to maintain a daily presence at these locations, hand out flyers, and showcase stickers visibly.

This campaign is emerging as gas prices climb sharply in the U.S. The national average sits at around $4 per gallon, but in California, the average has surged to nearly $6, up from about $5 a month ago.

Among the additional strategies suggested by the group are signing pledges, urging organizations to sever sponsorship ties with Chevron, and actively posting on the company’s social media platforms.

“Chevron incites genocide, but people power can stop it!” declared the group. However, they’ve faced backlash, including accusations of anti-Semitism and claims of inappropriate behavior.

Earlier this year, the Supreme Court declined to entertain a lawsuit from the Jewish National Fund and several American citizens against the US Campaign for Palestinian Rights, alleging that the group offered “material support” to Hamas, based on broad and indirect links to Palestinian activist networks.

The decision to dismiss the lawsuit is viewed as a hindrance to what some label a “legitimate” legal effort aimed at targeting pro-Palestinian advocacy.

Supporters of the defendants argued that the allegations lack sufficient legal grounding and seem more politically motivated than based on substantial evidence.

Chevron has yet to respond to the inquiries regarding these unfolding events.
