Activists Taunt Pro-Israel Students, Steal American Flag

Activists who set up an anti-Israel encampment Thursday at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, stole American flags from pro-Israel counter-protesters and made obscene gestures toward others.

Activists flocked to a vast grassy area known as Deering Meadow on Thursday morning and set up tents. University police withdrew and about 50 anti-Israel demonstrators camped out, causing chaos on campus.

Michael Simon, director of Northwestern Hillel, the official Jewish student organization, said Wednesday night that the Northwestern Student Government Association was taking advantage of the absence of Jewish students during the Passover holiday to make anti-Semitic statements. said it had passed a “boycott, divestment, and sanctions” (BDS) resolution against Israel.
