A longtime friend of New York City Mayor Eric Adams pleaded guilty Monday to charges related to a scheme to obtain tens of thousands of dollars from the Democratic Party’s 2021 campaign.

Former NYPD Inspector Dwayne Montgomery has pleaded guilty to an alleged straw donation scheme, the New York Daily News reported, citing a spokesperson for the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office.

Details of the plea deal were not immediately available, but Adams was asked about Montgomery’s guilty plea at an unrelated news conference Monday.

“As far as the issues surrounding Dwayne Montgomery go, the prosecutor’s office is handling that case,” Adams said, referring to Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg.

“I think the DA’s office has clearly reported that there was nothing that our campaign did as part of any wrongdoing. And I say, I’ll leave it to the DA’s office to handle this matter, the situation. .”

Other co-defendants in the lawsuit are Shamsuddin Riza, Millicent Reddick, Ronald Peek, and Ecosafety Consultants, Inc.

According to court documents, from August 2020 to November 2021, the co-defendants submitted forged campaign contribution forms to fraudulently obtain tens of thousands of dollars in matching funds for Adams’ 2021 New York City mayoral campaign.
