Alaska Airlines Boeing flight returns to airport following engine issue

According to reports, an Alaska Airlines flight flying from Seattle to Oakland, California, had to turn back Sunday afternoon due to engine problems.

Alaska Airlines Flight 1240 was operated by a Boeing 737-700. flight tracking website FlightAware, The plane took off from Seattle-Tacoma International Airport at 12:24 PDT and returned just over an hour later.

Alaska Airlines told multiple media outlets that the plane had turned back because its left engine had stopped.

“It felt like we'd run something over with a car,” passenger Dabney Lawless said. Local TV station KIRO. Her 13-year-old son witnessed smoke rising outside the plane, and she noticed people on the plane reaching out to loved ones.

“My son definitely told me he loved me, [I] “Being a good mother, I prepared for the possibility of an accident happening, but I also knew very well that it might be OK,” she said.

Neither Alaska Airlines nor Boeing responded to Fox Business' inquiries, but multiple media outlets cited the airline in a statement saying the crew assessed the flight “landed safely without incident.”

“We worked hard yesterday afternoon to assist our guests and re-arrange their travel arrangements to Auckland and apologise for any inconvenience caused,” the statement said.
