An American Airlines plane was evacuated at San Francisco International Airport on Friday after smoke from a passenger’s laptop filled the cabin, injuring three passengers, authorities said.
According to the Federal Aviation Administration and American Airlines, crew on the Miami-bound flight reported smoke in the cabin at about 12:15 p.m. while checking into the gate.
Panicked passengers were evacuated from the Airbus A321 using emergency slides.
“It all seemed hopeless until someone opened the middle door and we were all able to escape as we were trapped in the corridor. [were] One passenger suffered minor injuries. He told KRON4.
American Airlines said the source of the smoke was determined to be a laptop computer in a passenger’s bag.
“The bag was quickly removed by our flight attendants and all passengers deplaned,” the airline told The Post in a statement. “We thank the flight attendants for their professionalism and apologise to passengers for the inconvenience caused.”
The San Francisco Fire Department responded to the scene and extinguished the smoking laptop, the department said.
Three people sustained minor injuries during the evacuation, including one who was taken to a local hospital, according to the San Francisco Fire Department and American Airlines.

The nature of the injuries was not immediately clear.
Passengers were returned to the terminal.
The FAA said it is investigating the incident.
