A new poll finds that American adults view Vice President Kamala Harris as more honest than former President Trump, but are less likely to trust her to handle key issues like the economy and immigration.
In the AP-NORC poll of 1,164 adults, 4 in 10 people said “honest” would be a better description of Harris, compared with 24% for Trump, and 4 in 10 people said Harris “cares about people like you,” compared with 3 in 10 for Trump.
But when it comes to the economy, 45% of those surveyed say Trump would do a better job of handling it compared to 38% for Harris, according to the Associated Press. A similar difference was reported on immigration, with independents nearly twice as likely to trust Trump to handle the economy than Harris.
Harris has an advantage over Trump when it comes to addressing issues related to race, racial inequality, abortion policy and health care.

About half of American adults say Harris would do a better job of handling these issues than Trump, compared with about three in 10 who approve of Trump. Harris has particularly strong support among Democrats, independents and women on the issue of abortion policy.

About two-thirds of Democrats also said they would be “excited,” describing how they would feel if Harris were elected, either very well or extremely well.

The enthusiasm is a stark reversal from when Biden was the Democratic nominee: Just 4 in 10 Democrats said they would be “very excited” or “very excited” if Biden was re-elected in a March Associated Press-NORC poll.
