Analyst points out that Americans lack trust in Democrats regarding crime, calling it 'one of Trump's strongest topics'

Poll Indicates Trump’s Strength on Crime

Democrats have criticized President Donald Trump, suggesting he behaves like a dictator by federalizing law enforcement in Washington, D.C. Yet, recent polling data implies that crime remains one of his strongest topics among voters.

CNN analyst Harry Enten highlighted that many Americans trust Trump more when it comes to crime, even in light of the anti-ICE riots and other protests aimed at blaming the president for unrest. He expressed, “Crime is one of Trump’s best issues, and that’s one reason he focuses on it.”

During a discussion with anchor Kate Bordan, Enten pointed out that public perception of Trump regarding crime has improved significantly compared to a year ago. He qualified that while the poll doesn’t capture the current dynamics in D.C., incidents from Los Angeles and earlier in the year have left most Americans with a more favorable view of Trump.

According to Enten, Trump enjoys a 1% increase in approval in this latest vote compared to a similar survey from March 2024. That’s a remarkable 14% shift toward positivity since last year. He emphasized how Trump’s support on crime outshines that of former President Joe Biden. “Trump’s presence towers above Biden on crime management,” he noted. “Biden truly struggles with this issue, as it has consistently been problematic for him.”

He concluded that Americans have a more favorable view of Trump concerning crime issues than many Democrats would like to acknowledge.

Additionally, Trump aims to extend the federalization of D.C. law enforcement beyond the prescribed 30-day limit established by the Home Rule Act, pending council permission to do so. However, some residents are against this measure, with incidents of confrontation reported, including someone being arrested for throwing a subway sandwich at an officer.
