Immigration arrests in the Tucson area surged for a third straight week, with Arizona border agents arresting nearly 8,000 migrants just before President Joe Biden announced his latest immigration executive order.
Tucson Sector Chief Patrol Sergeant John Modlin reported on social media that his officers had apprehended 7,800 migrants in the week ending May 31. The following Wednesday, President Biden announced an executive order that would purportedly cap the number of migrant crossings per day.

Under President Biden’s executive order, the Department of Homeland Security will only restrict entry if the number of migrants crossing the border illegally between ports of entry reaches a seven-day average of 2,500 per day, Breitbart News reported. In the Tucson area alone, an average of more than 1,000 people were arrested per day in the seven days leading up to May 31.
National Centre for Immigration Enforcement (NICE) I have written An analysis of the order states, “Biden seeks to officially legitimize crisis-level illegal immigration through a variety of means (approximately 2 million people per year) while eviscerating domestic enforcement by refusing to arrest, detain, and deport illegal immigrants in accordance with the law.”
Citing unofficial Border Patrol charts, Breitbart Texas reported that Border Patrol agents apprehended about 118,000 migrants during the month of May, or more than 3,800 per day. May’s arrests were the third-lowest month for migrant arrests under the Biden administration. During fiscal year 23, agents have apprehended an average of more than 6,780 migrants per day. So far this fiscal year, agents have apprehended about 6,715 migrants per day.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott criticized the president’s executive order as “a smokescreen for President Biden’s failed open borders policy.” He added, “This executive order will further the invasion of our country and allow thousands of unvetted illegal immigrants to cross our border every day. This is the exact opposite of closing the border.”
Abbott said Biden’s executive order “effectively legalizes millions of illegal immigrants already in the country and allows thousands more to illegally cross our southern border each day.”
