If Boise State finishes higher than the Big 12 champions in the final playoff rankings, the Broncos will be the fourth-seeded team.
Shortly after ASU won its first Big 12 title, head coach Kenny Dillingham touted the Sun Devils' 11-2 record and sent a clear message to the selection committee.

“Florida State was held back last year because their quarterback didn't play. We're 11-1 with our quarterback. We're 11-1 and Big 12 champions. We're 11-1 with our quarterback. “I think they should be treated the same way as the team,” Dillingham argued.
Dillingham was referring to the Florida State team that made it through the regular season with an unblemished record and won the 2023 ACC Championship Game. However, the selection committee factored in an injury to starting quarterback Jordan Travis, and FSU fell to fifth place in the final playoff rankings that season.

Because this year's Orange Bowl was not a semifinal game, several key Seminoles players withdrew from the Orange Bowl, resulting in a lopsided loss to Georgia.
ASU hasn't dropped a game since losing to Cincinnati 24-14 in October. Quarterback Sam Leavitt did not play in that game. The Sun Devils' first loss of the season came on the road in September, when Texas Tech won 30-22.
