Arizona State stunned Texas Tech, triggering a near goal post disaster

Arizona State’s Triumph Turns into Near-Tragedy

What was a big win for Arizona State almost turned chaotic after they upset Texas Tech in a surprising game.

Once the match concluded, an excited rush onto the field caused the goal post to topple over. The Sun Devils defeated the No. 7 Red Raiders with a final score of 26-22, handing Texas Tech their first loss of the season during a tense Saturday night.

In a video shared on social media, a surge of maroon and gold fans overwhelmed the field at Mountain America Stadium, quickly surrounding the south goal post. The post teetered briefly before crashing into the end zone, just missing a crowd of players and enthusiastic supporters.

Luckily, no one was harmed during the incident. However, Arizona State University was hit with a $50,000 fine from the Big 12, who announced this on Tuesday.

“The Big 12’s top priority is the safety of all players, coaches, and officials,” stated Big 12 Commissioner Brett Yormark. He added that the conference will collaborate with institutions on event management at all venues.

The Sun Devils originally led by 12 points in the fourth quarter but found themselves trailing by three with only two minutes left on the clock.

Quarterback Sam Leavitt played a crucial role, completing 28 of 47 passes for 319 yards and a touchdown. He capped the thrilling comeback with a 1-yard touchdown run to Lareek Brown, securing the win with just 34 seconds remaining.

After Texas Tech’s final attempt—a failed Hail Mary—condemnation echoed through the stadium.

The reigning Big 12 champions now hold a 5-2 record, placing them third in the conference.

Arizona State’s next challenge will be against Houston, who currently boasts a 6-1 record, on October 25th.
