Arizona Voters to Decide on Giving Police the Power to Arrest Illegal Aliens

Arizona voters will soon decide whether to give local police the power to arrest and detain illegal immigrants who cross into the state from Mexico.

This week, Republicans in the Arizona Legislature approved The bill passed on a party-line 31-29 vote, giving voters on Nov. 5 the power to give state and local law enforcement agencies the ability to arrest illegal immigrants who cross the southern border.

The bill would allow Arizona state police to charge illegal immigrants with a misdemeanor the first time they are arrested, and a felony the second time they are arrested for crossing the border. Judges would be given the power to order the deportation of illegal immigrants convicted of crossing the border.

As Breitbart News reported in March, Governor Katie Hobbs (Democrat) vetoed the Republican-backed bill, calling it “unsecure the border” and “harmful to businesses” who hire illegal immigrants for jobs in Arizona.

“This bill would make our border less secure, harm communities and businesses across our state, and strain our law enforcement and state judicial system,” Governor Hobbs said in vetoing the bill.
