President Trump declared on Monday that Iran would owe reparations “many times over” for every U.S. service member it kills.
The statement came via a post on Truth Social earlier today.
Trump emphasized, “Every time Iran kills an American soldier, they will pay the price for that killing many times over!” He noted that this message was relayed to Secretary of the Army Pete Hegseth, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Daniel Kaine, and military leaders.
This announcement follows the death of three U.S. military personnel over the weekend. U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) reported that two service members were killed and one was missing after an Iranian strike on a U.S. base in Jordan.
The fallen soldiers have been identified as Private First Class Isabella Gonzalez, 19, and Lt. Tyler James Feehan, 25.
Additionally, four other military members had to be medically evacuated due to Iranian drone and missile attacks in Jordan but have since been released from the hospital.
On Saturday, another U.S. service member lost their life in northern Iran during a controlled detonation of unexploded ordnance caused by a downed Iranian drone, according to CENTCOM.
Another service member sustained minor injuries.
President Trump stated on Sunday that the U.S. had conducted nine consecutive nights of strikes against Iran, asserting these actions were in response to the deaths of the three military personnel.
“We hit them very hard again tonight, and we did it in honor of three—maybe three, not two—great patriots,” Trump told reporters following the World Cup final, suggesting that Iran has been “very, very seriously damaged.”
He added, “They lost almost everything militarily. They don’t have much left. They have some missiles, some drones. They have some manufacturing capacity, but not a lot.”
Trump also remarked, “We control the Strait. They control nothing. So let’s see what happens.”
On Monday, White House press secretary Caroline Leavitt announced that President Trump plans to attend the dignified transfer of the three service members at Dover Air Force Base on Tuesday.
