JERUSALEM — Benny Gantz, a centrist member of Israel’s three-member war cabinet, announced his resignation on Sunday.
The move poses no immediate threat to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who still controls a majority coalition in parliament, but it makes him more reliant on his far-right alliance.

Gantz, a popular former military commander, joined Netanyahu’s government in a show of solidarity shortly after the Oct. 7 Hamas attack.
Mr Gantz’s presence has also bolstered Israel’s credibility with its international partners, and he has a good working relationship with US officials.
Gantz had previously said he would leave government by June 8 if Netanyahu did not draw up a new plan for post-war Gaza.
