Biden campaign slams JD Vance, says Trump VP pick will ‘enable’ an ‘extreme MAGA agenda’

Presumed Republican presidential nominee and former President Donald Trump on Monday picked Ohio Sen. J.D. Vance as his running mate, with Biden’s campaign arguing that he will “deliver” on the “extreme MAGA agenda.”

In his initial reaction to Vance’s selection as his running mate, President Biden said Vance “talks big” about wanting to help working-class Americans but is pushing for “more tax cuts for the wealthy.”

“Here’s the thing about J.D. Vance,” Biden posted on X on Monday. “He talks big about working people, but now he and Trump are pushing for higher taxes on middle class families and more tax cuts for the wealthy.”

“Well, I’m not going to let that happen,” Biden said, urging his supporters to donate to his campaign.

President Trump on Monday praised his running mate, saying, “After lengthy deliberation and consideration, and after taking into account many other outstanding talents, I have determined that Senator J.D. Vance of Ohio is the person best qualified to serve as Vice President of the United States.”

“JD served his country honorably in the Marine Corps, graduated summa cum laude from Ohio State University in his second year, and graduated from Yale Law School where he served as editor of the Yale Law Journal and president of the Yale Law Veterans Association,” he said.

“JD’s book, ‘Hillbilly Elegy,’ a defense of the hardworking men and women of our country, was a best-seller and was made into a movie,” he said, adding that the freshman senator “has had a very successful business career in technology and finance.”

Fox News reported that Burgum and Rubio were informed that they would not be nominated as vice presidential candidates before Vance’s announcement.

Biden-Harris 2024 Chair Jen O’Malley Dillon released a statement slamming President Trump’s choice.

“Donald Trump chose J.D. Vance as his running mate because Vance will do what Mike Pence did not do on January 6th: do everything in his power to support Trump and his extreme MAGA agenda, even if it means breaking the law and whatever harm it may cause to the American people,” Dillon said.

“This is a man who supports a nationwide abortion ban while criticizing exceptions for rape and incest victims, vehemently opposed Obamacare laws that protect millions of people with pre-existing conditions and acknowledged that he would not have endorsed a free and fair election in 2020,” she said.

“Billionaires and corporations are literally rooting for J.D. Vance because they know he and Trump will cut their taxes and make prices skyrocket for everyone else,” she said.

Democratic Rep. Eric Swalwell of California also responded to the announcement in a post on X, saying, “Interesting move from ‘He might be the American Hitler’ to ‘Is he hiring?'” referring to Vance’s previous comments calling Trump “the American Hitler.”

Democratic National Committee Chairman Jaime Harrison also responded to the news, saying, “This is the most important election of our lifetimes, and Donald Trump’s decision today to add J.D. Vance to his Republican nomination makes it even more important.”

“J.D. Vance embodies MAGA with his unrealistic, extreme policies and plans to help Trump impose his Project 2025 policies on the American people.”

“Let me be clear: The combination of Trump and Vance would undermine our democracy, our freedoms and our future,” Harrison said.
