Bill Maher Claims Donald Trump Is Incorrect About Iran: “He Continues to Say We Won, But We Didn’t”

Bill Maher Critiques Trump’s Stance on Iran

On Friday night, comedian Bill Maher expressed his thoughts regarding Donald Trump’s approach to Iran, declaring that the former president is simply “wrong.” During the latest episode of Real Time with Bill Maher, Maher engaged in a dialogue with Maryland Governor Wes Moore, Chris Cuomo, and Sarah Isgur, using his opening monologue to challenge Trump’s claims of success.

Maher began by making light of the shifting narratives surrounding the conflict, likening the situation to an ongoing cycle rather than a straightforward war. He remarked, “I know why you’re happy today, because President Trump said today that we won’t use nuclear weapons in Iran. I didn’t know that was an option. But hey, that’s good! It feels sort of like Groundhog Day; the same tales repeat weekly. We’re seizing their boats—then they seize ours. Honestly, it feels more like a messy divorce in Florida than an actual war.”

He then delved into the chaotic strategies, or lack thereof, that characterize the tension, painting it as a disorganized exchange of blocks with no resolution in sight. “It’s become this back-and-forth where we’re like, ‘You block me, I’ll block you’… That seems to be the plan—gradually weaken their economy, or at least that’s the hope,” he said.

In classic Maher fashion, he connected global issues to everyday life, taking a few whimsical detours. He humorously noted, “This week was Earth Day, and surprise, we’re still heavily dependent on oil… Gas prices are through the roof—oh, but it’s more than gas. Everything’s tied to petroleum products. Did you catch the news about condoms? They’re in really short supply and pretty pricey right now. Who could’ve seen that coming?”

Amidst the humor, Maher returned to what he perceives as Trump’s inconsistent messaging. He pointed out the stark difference between Trump’s past aggressive rhetoric and his more recent calm demeanor regarding the conflict. “I mean, have you noticed how serene he seems lately about war? Just weeks ago, he was threatening to obliterate civilizations if they didn’t follow his commands. Now, he’s asking, ‘Was that really a war?’ It feels much more serious than that,” he pondered.

He firmly asserted his stance against Trump’s claims of victory, emphasizing, “The issue is, he keeps saying we won, but we really didn’t win. The Strait of Hormuz isn’t open, people didn’t revolt, and the regime is still in place. We didn’t win, and that’s disappointing.”

Maher also criticized Trump’s social media behavior, suggesting that it exacerbated tensions. “And on social media, he keeps flaunting the supposed victories we don’t actually have… Every day it’s inflammatory, contradictory nonsense. One thing you can’t fault him for is his use of the silent treatment, that’s for sure.”

Concluding the segment with a blend of dark humor and critique, Maher suggested that while the U.S. may boast a few tactical achievements, the broader context remains sobering. “In the end, we’re pretty good at eliminating their leaders who aren’t smart enough to go underground when we’re after them. That seems to be our forte.”
