Bill Maher Critiques Whoopi Goldberg’s Remarks on Iran
Comedian Bill Maher voiced his concerns about the “silly awakened” podcast during his own “clubrandom” podcast on Monday, specifically highlighting co-host Whoopi Goldberg’s recent comments regarding Iran. He expressed that it was frustrating to witness the far left’s responses and humorously mentioned, “I love her, not awake, but awakened, you know, like Whoopi Goldberg. But saying that black people are on the same level as Iranian women, well, that feels like something out of the 1920s, not today.”
Goldberg had claimed on “The View” that being black in America in 2025 is akin to being an Iranian woman. Maher, in his podcast, was joined by liberal YouTube figure Brian Tyler Cohen, where the conversation meandered into the film industry and Maher’s outlook on various societal issues.
Bill Maher on Democratic Respondents to Goldberg’s Comments
Cohen guided the discussion towards former President Donald Trump’s decision-making during his term, referencing the protests in Los Angeles. Maher interjected on comparisons drawn during their talk, stating, “Not on the same level.” Cohen acknowledged this while noting the presence of a deployed army in LA, which struck him as unusual.
Additionally, Maher criticized Zoran Mamdani, a candidate vying for mayor of New York City, suggesting the race seemed unfocused. When asked if Mamdani, a democratic socialist, could truly steer socialism as NYC’s mayor, Maher remarked that the candidate has “the authority and influence to push Republican candidates, effectively becoming a national GOP advertisement.”
Maher Discusses Potential Democratic Candidates
He went on to share his top three picks for the Democratic candidates in the upcoming election: California Governor Gavin Newsom, former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, and ex-Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel. In a moment of candor, Maher also reflected on his previous stance regarding Trump’s tariffs, acknowledging he was wrong to label their impact as catastrophic.
