Comedian Bill Maher pushed back against critics who claim he’s changed in an interview with CNN on Sunday, suggesting it’s the left that has changed and that he’s not afraid to blame them.
“I haven’t changed. Certainly, people have said to me, ‘You’re making more fun of the left now than you used to,’ and I feel guilty because the left has changed,” Maher said, arguing that the right has changed as well, and for the worse.
While on a media tour for his new book, “What These Comedians Say Will Shock You,” Maher told CNN’s Fareed Zakaria some of the changes he believes have been made on the left.
“It’s about gender, race, freedom of speech, the idea that you can be healthy regardless of your weight, that gender has always been a social construct, that maybe we should give communism another try, that maybe we should abolish capitalism and the Border Patrol, that maybe we should tear down Lincoln statues and abolish the police, etc. But no, I’m not getting old, you’re just stupid, OK?” Maher said.

Bill Maher slams Stormy Daniels’ testimony in Trump trial: ‘She’s a bad witness!’
Zakaria, another figure who has recently grown skeptical of the left’s cherished progressive talking points, joined in, saying, “Common sense is common sense.”
Maher’s disdain for the far left is not the only reason he has warmed to the Republican Party: He has also criticized presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump as anti-democratic and a threat to the party’s future, saying that he believes elections “only matter if we win.”
In a recent interview, “The View” co-host Sunny Hostin bluntly told Maher that he’d “changed” after the star said on the show that he considered himself an “old-fashioned liberal.”
The comedian also spoke about his concern about young men losing the ability to communicate and talk to women.

“I think this is going to be a huge problem. I think when Tinder came out, young men thought it was great. Oh, look, you don’t even have to talk to the girl. You can do it all on your phone. You just scroll through, like a menu, like ordering on Grubhub. But the truth is, most people who use Tinder are men. You know, two-thirds of people who are on the site are men. So it’s not a very good prospect for men,” Maher said.
The comedian argued that women haven’t changed much, saying they are “communicative creatures.”
“We need to talk to them,” he added.

“I think men have lost that ability. I think they just think they can text an eggplant emoji and say, how are you?,” he continued. “You still have to court. Yes, you still have to court. Women haven’t changed in that respect.”
