Actor Billy Crystal was seen leaving his house visibly shaken just hours after his longtime friend Rob Reiner and his wife were found murdered.
Crystal, who is 77, arrived at Reiner’s Brentwood residence after the grim news broke. According to reports, both Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, were discovered with stab wounds inside their home.
In footage captured, Crystal and his wife, Janice, were seen exiting the heavily secured area.
Neighbors informed ABC 7 that the couple had only been there briefly, and they noted that Crystal appeared close to tears.
Additionally, “Seinfeld” creator Larry David was spotted arriving at the Reiner household separately before leaving shortly after, clearly upset.
Crystal famously starred in Reiner’s romantic comedy “When Harry Met Sally” back in 1989 and maintained a close friendship with him throughout their careers.
They also featured together in movies like “This Is Spinal Tap” and “The Princess Bride.”
Reiner was well-known for portraying a fictional version of himself on Larry David’s HBO series “Curb Your Enthusiasm.”
Authorities reported they were called to the residence Sunday afternoon, where they discovered a man and a woman with stab wounds.
The victims, identified as Reiner and his wife, were 78 and 68 years old, respectively, and were pronounced dead at the scene.
“We are heartbroken by this sudden loss and ask for privacy during this incredibly difficult time,” the family stated in a release.
Sources mentioned that the couple’s 32-year-old son, screenwriter Nick Reiner, is currently a person of interest in the investigation.
It appears a knife was involved in the attack, according to officials.
During a press briefing outside Reiner’s residence, LAPD Chief of Detectives Alan Hamilton noted that, hours after the emergency call, search warrants were still being processed to ensure a thorough investigation.
He reassured the community of Brentwood that they are safe, though no arrests have been made in connection with the murders.
After news of Reiner’s passing spread, tributes began pouring in from film industry colleagues and fans online.
Reiner, 78, is celebrated for directing timeless classics from the ’80s and ’90s, such as “When Harry Met Sally,” “The Princess Bride,” “This Is Spinal Tap,” and “A Few Good Men.”
He initially gained fame as Mike “Meathead” Staevich on the CBS sitcom “All in the Family,” which earned him two Emmy Awards.
