US Secretary of State Antony Blinken reportedly warned G7 leaders in a conference call that Iran and Hezbollah could launch attacks on Israel within the next 24 to 48 hours, according to multiple sources.

Blinken added that the US expects imminent retaliation by Iran and Hezbollah against Israel as early as Monday, but it was unclear exactly what form any retaliation would take, the sources told the outlet.
One of the sources said Blinken “showed his frustration” and that before Haniyeh’s death in Tehran, the Biden administration thought it was “close to a breakthrough” on a ceasefire and hostage release agreement between Israel and Hamas.

Foreign ministers of the G7 countries including Canada, Italy, Japan, France, Germany, the United Kingdom and the United States, as well as the High Representative of the European Union issued A joint statement on Sunday called on “all parties” to “de-escalate and engage constructively” to try to calm the situation.
“We reiterate our call on all parties to break the current destructive cycle of retaliatory violence, reduce tensions and work constructively towards de-escalation,” the statement said. “No country or people will benefit from further escalation of tensions in the Middle East.”
