A DoorDash driver from California was found deceased in the trunk of his Tesla, which had been left on the roadside, prompting authorities to treat the case as a homicide.
Javier Becerril, 42, from Hollister, was discovered last Thursday along Highway 152 near the San Luis Reservoir, and the California Highway Patrol confirmed his identity on Tuesday.
Becerril’s family had reported him missing before his body was located.
Authorities noted that the circumstances surrounding the incident were suspicious, leading them to classify it as a homicide.
“There are suspicious circumstances, and we are treating it as such,” an investigator from the CHP mentioned.
Detectives are currently reviewing data from the Tesla’s onboard computer system to see if it includes any information or video that could point to those responsible for Becerril’s death.
In Hollister, colleagues from DoorDash honored Becerril with a small memorial in the Safeway parking lot, a location where he often completed deliveries.
Authorities reported that Becerril’s family is fully cooperating with the ongoing investigation as they seek answers.
A GoFundMe page has been organized by his family to help cover funeral and memorial expenses and to support his children. It describes him as a “father, devoted son, caring brother, and cherished cousin.”
“Javier had a kind heart and was always eager to help those he loved. His laughter and the moments shared with family and friends will be remembered,” the fundraiser states.
They are asking for contributions to assist with burial costs and to support his children, emphasizing that every donation matters. If unable to donate, they encourage prayers and sharing the fundraiser.
