Boeing to Lay Off Nearly 400 Workers at Plants in Washington State

Aircraft maker Boeing will lay off 396 employees in Washington state as it makes internal adjustments.

A notice issued Monday by the state Employment Security Department. said Reuters reported that the job cuts will be made in various locations.

Boeing is trying to get production of its best-selling 737 MAX back on track after a weeks-long strike by more than 33,000 workers on the U.S. West Coast halted production of most commercial jets.

Asked for comment, Boeing pointed to previous statements that the company was adjusting its workforce levels to align with “financial realities and a more focused set of priorities.”

According to King 5, temporary layoff Employees at the company's Bremerton, Auburn, Everett, Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Kent, Puyallup, Renton, Seattle and Tukwila locations will be affected.

“We are committed to ensuring our employees are supported during this difficult time,” Boeing said.

The union representing the workers said it would work with state officials to help employees find other jobs.

According to Breitbart News, Boeing sent out layoff notices in November to about 17,000 employees, with job cuts scheduled to occur by mid-January.

“With approximately 170,000 employees worldwide, the impending layoffs represent a staggering 10 percent of Boeing's workforce,” the report said.

The manufacturer has faced strikes and other problems over the past few months.

According to Breitbart News, “An example of a safety issue occurred in July when a Boeing plane carrying 174 passengers lost a wheel in mid-air after taking off from Los Angeles International Airport, and such an accident This is the second time this year, Breitbart News noted,” reported in October.

“In another incident in May, a Boeing plane made an emergency landing in Indonesia due to an engine fire. According to Breitbart News, the jet was carrying 468 passengers,” the paper said.
