Homan Criticizes Lawmakers Over Detention Center Concerns

Tom Homan, often referred to as the “border emperor,” has taken lawmakers to task for their criticism of a newly established detention center named “Crocodile Alcatraz.” He pointed out that these same lawmakers have remained largely silent about the immigrant deaths that occurred during Joe Biden’s presidency.

Located in a swampy area of Florida’s Everglades, the Wannial Catraz has faced scrutiny over its conditions and environmental implications. Critics have raised concerns regarding the safety and humanity of long-term detention at this site.

Despite this, Homan asserted that the facility adheres to guidelines issued by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and boasts high industry standards. “Detainees voice their complaints about conditions,” he remarked during his Sunday appearance on CNN’s “Confederation Status.” He emphasized that the guidelines are publicly available and claim to be the best in the industry, suggesting that the lawmakers’ concerns about “Wannial Catraz” seemed rather misplaced.

Notably, Homan criticized the absence of outcry from these lawmakers when immigrant fatalities spiked under Biden’s administration. According to data from U.S. Customs and Border Protection, 856 migrants lost their lives in 2022 while attempting to cross the southern border. Homan pointed out, “You didn’t hear complaints about people being held under the Biden administration in overcrowded Border Patrol facilities.” He argued that the years preceding this were marked by a significant increase in immigrant deaths and human trafficking.

He contended that over half a million children had been trafficked during Biden’s tenure, asserting that this crisis has not received adequate criticism. In his view, the prior administration, under Donald Trump, was more proactive in addressing these child trafficking issues.

Homan expressed frustration at lawmakers who he believes have feigned ignorance amidst the ongoing crisis. “Without border security, we cannot ensure national security in this country,” he stated, reflecting on the apparent disconnect between policy rhetoric and action.
