Funding for Smart Border Wall Enhancements
The “One Big Beautiful Bill” that President Donald Trump signed last year is financing a “smart border wall,” which U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Commissioner Rodney Scott highlighted as a more efficient way to tackle illegal immigration and border-related crimes.
During a policy event in Washington, DC, Scott discussed the Trump administration’s $46.5 billion investment in this initiative while speaking with Breitbart Washington Bureau Chief Matthew Boyle.
“Regarding the border, we have $46.5 billion dedicated to building this smart border wall,” Scott noted. “People often think of a ‘wall’ in a conventional sense, but we’ve actually integrated a lot of technology into it to expand the coverage our agents provide. We’ve also received additional funding for more technology at the border.”
He elaborated on the advancements, mentioning the introduction of autonomous towers equipped with artificial intelligence that minimizes false alarms. “Previously, when a sensor was triggered, an agent would need to investigate. Now, with the AI improvements and new radar systems, agents can quickly check their phones to assess the situation, whether it’s a hiker, someone on horseback, or actual criminal activity. It really saves a tremendous amount of man-hours,” he explained.
Scott also pointed out that the funding is enhancing marine and air operations. “In terms of aerial and marine capabilities, we have a significant ‘Air Force’—ranging from small helicopters for quick responses to portable drones that agents can deploy for surveillance. We also have the MQ-9s, which are akin to military-style drones, equipped with impressive surveillance technology and capable of long durations in the air,” he added.
“It’s important to note that this isn’t just CBP unilaterally purchasing technology. We coordinate all investments through the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) with the Coast Guard,” Scott clarified. “We make sure to efficiently allocate our resources, ensuring that we’re maximizing the effectiveness of taxpayer dollars while maintaining control over what enters the country within legal frameworks.”
On Tuesday, the event also featured a conversation with DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin, focusing on issues like border security, public safety, and American sovereignty. This event was organized in collaboration with CGCN and ALFA Institute.
