Brandon Aiyuk’s Social Media Standoff
Brandon Aiyuk seems to be diving deeper into the social media fray, much to the dismay of many following his online antics.
The wide receiver, still linked to the San Francisco 49ers, has made it clear he intends to keep posting despite criticisms about his online presence. In a recent update, he addressed this head-on.
“What can I tell you?” Aiyuk remarked. “If I go back to the NFL, I’m still going to be active and not on social media.”
His comments come after a spree of posts centered around the 49ers, his contract dilemmas, and speculation about his next team. Aiyuk has accused San Francisco of misleading both fans and the media regarding the expiration of contract guarantees, stating that decisions were made long before the public announcement in November.
“When the news finally came out in November that my guarantee was void, the team continued to lie to the media and fan base,” he wrote.
In addition, Aiyuk has been publicly flirting with the Washington Commanders, which raises eyebrows due to his past connection with quarterback Jaden Daniels at Arizona State. Moreover, Washington’s general manager, Adam Peters, was part of the 49ers when Aiyuk was drafted in 2020.
However, this budding relationship has also faced challenges. Aiyuk recently seemed to call out Daniels on social media, only for Daniels to respond with a snarky thumbs-down image referencing Kevin Durant, adding another odd layer to their interaction.
This public approach has sparked doubts about whether any team might be willing to bear the drama while recognizing Aiyuk’s talent. It’s worth noting that he hasn’t played in nearly two years, which complicates matters further.
Media personality Colin Cowherd weighed in, criticizing the 49ers for how they’ve managed their roster, suggesting that other teams, like the Los Angeles Rams, have handled injuries and drama far better.
“That’s why the 49ers’ roster is old, dramatic, fragile, and expensive,” Cowherd stated.
Aiyuk appears to think that social media could be his ticket to a fresh start or a better contract. But one thing is clear from his latest post: he isn’t planning to take it down anytime soon.
