Michael Wilhoite, an outside linebackers coach for the Broncos, was placed under arrest Sunday night in Denver after he allegedly assaulted a police officer.

Wilhoite was charged with second-degree assault of a police officer, court records show, per The Denver Post. He was scheduled to make a court appearance Monday morning (10:30 a.m. local time).

The address that’s listed in the court documents for where the situation happened is the exact one of a Denver International Airport parking garage.

Wilhoite, who is 38 years old, became a part of the Broncos staff back in 2023. It was a reunification for Wilhoite with head coach Sean Payton after he worked for him on the New Orleans Saints as one of their special teams and defensive assistant coaches from 2019-2020. Starting in 2021, Wilhoite was with the Los Angeles Rams for two campaigns prior to becoming a Bronco.

As a player in the NFL, Wilhoite served six seasons in the league, with five of them being for the San Francisco 49ers. His last season was in 2017 with the Seattle Seahawks. An inside linebacker, Wilhoite tallied 298 tackles and four interceptions in his 79-game career. He had 45 starts.

Payton’s attendance is anticipated at the NFL combine, which takes place in Indianapolis. There, he has the mission of trying to fill several vacancies on his coaching staff.
