Schiff Dodges Questions on Mortgage Fraud Allegations

California Senator Adam Schiff has opted not to respond to repeated inquiries from Fox News Digital concerning allegations of mortgage fraud, accusations made by former President Donald Trump that span over a decade.

Schiff, a long-time critic of Trump, has faced allegations from the former president regarding his second home in Maryland during Trump’s first two terms in office.

According to Trump, Schiff claimed the Maryland property as his primary residence back in 2009, all while serving as a congressman and later as a senator from California. Schiff has dismissed these accusations as “baseless.”

A former federal prosecutor remarked that Schiff has “many problems” in light of these claims.

Despite the questions, Schiff declined to engage, simply wishing the reporter a good day when confronted about Trump’s remarks.

Trump has referred to Schiff as a “serious low-life” and took to Truth Social to voice his claims against the senator. He alleged that Schiff is involved in a pattern of potential mortgage fraud, asserting that Schiff recognized his primary residence in Maryland while fulfilling his duties as a California lawmaker. Trump accused Schiff of manipulating his residency status to secure a better mortgage deal.

Trump stated, “Mortgage fraud is serious, and it requires action against crooked Adam Schiff.” However, he has not provided any evidence to substantiate these claims.

Later, when pressed for specifics, Trump slightly softened his language, diminishing the weight of the accusations yet still condemning Schiff.

Legally, Schiff has not violated any regulations; he was permitted to declare both his Maryland and California residences when applying for mortgages and filling out election forms since 2003. Nonetheless, discrepancies have emerged, with reports suggesting he refinanced his Maryland home multiple times while designating both residences in various documents.

This situation was initially flagged by a Republican real estate investigator who subsequently filed an ethical complaint against Schiff. In response, Schiff characterized Trump’s accusations as political retaliation and tried to refocus the narrative on his ongoing political battles.
