California high school football game ends early as melee breaks out between players

A California high school football game came to an abrupt end Friday night when a brawl forced the referees to stop the game early in the fourth quarter.

The Fresno Central Grizzlies defeated the Justin Garza High School Guardians 40-0. Video of the incident showed a Guardians player ripping a Grizzlies player’s helmet off his head and hitting him with it, according to the release. Fresno Bee.

The game was played between Fresno Central High School and Garza High School.

The incident happened some distance from where the ball was.

Coaches from both teams were able to break up the brawl, but the referees decided they could take it no more and ended the match with 10 minutes remaining.

Central Unified School District Superintendent Ketty Davis released a statement on the issue:

“I want to assure the community that behavior of this nature does not reflect the values ​​of sportsmanship that we uphold, and we are committed to addressing this incident in accordance with district policy,” Davis said.

Davis thanked his coaching staff and staff for quickly resolving the incident.
