A San Diego middle school student was reportedly airlifted to the hospital Monday after a fight got out of control.

In a memo sent to parents of students at Lincoln Middle School and obtained by Fox News Digital, Principal Cesar Mora said that as a “precautionary measure,” paramedics were called to check on the student’s condition around 1 p.m. Monday. He said he was called to the Oceanside campus.

“We would like to let you know about an incident that occurred earlier today. There was an altercation between two students. Then at around 1pm, emergency personnel were called as a precautionary measure and recovered one of the students involved. We have examined you,” the letter read.

School officials said emergency personnel determined the student needed to be transported by helicopter for further evaluation by medical personnel.

Students were rerouted after hours to “ensure their safety” while officials worked to bring the situation under control, Mora said. Once the scene was cleared, students resumed normal school activities.

“Please be assured that the health and safety of all students remains our top priority,” Mora said in a note to families. “We believe this was an isolated incident and we are currently investigating.”

School officials added that the student is no longer hospitalized.
