A California sheriff on Tuesday slammed Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign for using his likeness in a new ad without his permission, according to a new report, adding that he will not support the Democratic presidential candidate because he has “done nothing to stop people from crossing the border illegally.”
“In light of Kamala Harris’ recent political advertisement featuring Sheriff Boudreau and other local law enforcement, the Sheriff wants to clarify that his image is being used without permission and that he is not endorsing Harris for President or any other political office,” Tulare County Sheriff Mike Boudreau said in a statement. He told Fox News In a statement.
“The truth is, Harris doesn’t care about the drug cartels at all and has done nothing to stop people from crossing the border illegally,” Boudreau countered.
In the TV ad, the Tulare County sheriff appears briefly as a narrator reads, “Kamala Harris has fought violent crime for decades as a border state prosecutor. She’s taken on drug cartels and jailed gang members who smuggled weapons and drugs across the border.”
Boudreau, who worked in county law enforcement for nearly four decades, called the allegations “misleading” and said Harris’ appearances alongside him and other law enforcement officials while he was California’s attorney general were a “sham.”
The ad follows her short journey as [Central] “In 2014, Valley touted his long-running investigation into a transnational drug cartel with ties to Mexican drug cartels and prison gangs,” he noted.
The narrator then says Harris will “hire thousands more Border Patrol agents and crack down on fentanyl and human trafficking,” to which Boudreau says “we were absolutely outraged.”
“How can you advertise that you have a strong border when the military is coming across the border and literally removing all the special forces?” he asked.
Tulare County District Attorney Tim Ward, who also appears in the video, also slammed Harris, telling Fox News that “her hypocrisy knows no bounds.”
Boudreau also recalled that Harris smiled for the cameras and claimed credit for the drug bust without even saying “hi to any of us.”
“We were in the dressing room, she came in and didn’t say hello to any of us. She came out front, did a press conference and literally walked out and didn’t say hello to any of us,” he said. “She didn’t shake hands, she didn’t say hello, and she took all the credit for all the work that the locals did.”
Dinuba’s ABC 30 Reported Eleven people were arrested at the time, including the alleged “ringleader,” Jose Magana, and authorities seized approximately 950 marijuana plants, four kilograms of cocaine, and 56 pounds of methamphetamine.
Harris used the opportunity to ask then-California Governor Jerry Brown to increase law enforcement funding by $7.5 million to combat drug trafficking across the state.
But as vice president, she said “no one should go to prison for smoking marijuana” and approved President Biden’s signing of pardons for dozens of people serving time in federal prison for drug-related offenses.
In April, Harris joined Kim Kardashian at the White House to celebrate pardons, including for several former inmates who had been pardoned. Cocaine or crack convictionsand others have been convicted of selling methamphetamine and possessing heroin.
“We have pardoned everyone who has been convicted of a federal offense for simple marijuana possession,” Harris boasted at the event.
But none of these pardons are for people who are still incarcerated, and recent congressional estimates showed that about 2,700 people are still in federal prison on marijuana-related charges.
Harris’ TV spots launched on Aug. 9. A representative for Harris’ campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Boudreau ran as a Republican in California’s 20th congressional district to replace retiring Rep. Kevin McCarthy in May, just seven months after being ousted as House speaker.
