Callous dog thieves filmed taking Labradoodles from a car in Southern California

A woman from Southern California has found herself in an unimaginable situation: her two Labradoodles were stolen from her parked car in broad daylight. The unsettling incident was captured on surveillance footage.

This unfortunate event unfolded for Esma Bohannon last month when she left her dogs, Coco Chanel, aged 7, and 3-year-old Octopus, in her vehicle in Encinitas while she quickly ran an errand. To help keep them cool, she rolled down a window and left a large bowl of water inside.

In the video, which Bohannon has watched repeatedly, a car can be seen stopping close to hers. It chills her to think about it. “Words can’t express how it feels to have someone take your loved one,” she remarked.

That’s when two women approached, grabbed the dogs, and loaded them into their own vehicle. Bohannon, heartbroken, has found herself replaying the videos of her dogs over and over again. “It didn’t feel real. I was shocked and scared when I looked inside,” she shared with ABC10.

One of the women opened the unlocked passenger door, picked up Coco Chanel, and tossed her into the back seat. Later, Octopus was also taken and placed next to his sibling.

“You can’t describe the feeling of someone taking away your loved one,” she said. It led her to ponder whether the women believed they were rescuing the dogs because of the heat.

Bohannon expressed a wish that the scenario had been a misunderstanding, with someone thinking, “I’m going to help her.” Unfortunately, even though both dogs had tags with her contact information, they haven’t shown up at any shelters or humane organizations, leaving the distraught owner feeling helpless.

She has reported the theft to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office and urges anyone who might have information to step forward. “I just want my two dogs back. That’s all I want,” Bohannon implored.
