Cartel Gunmen on Jet Skis Kill Victim In Luxurious Cancun Beach Hotel

Gunmen on jet skis pulled up to a luxury hotel in Cancun, shot and killed an unidentified man, and fled before authorities arrived. The shooting was just one of several in the popular beach resort area in recent months amid a fierce turf war between rival drug cartels.

According to Mexico's Noticaribe.mx, the shooting occurred on Wednesday morning on the private beach of the Riu Hotel in Cancun. The shoot took place in Cancun's exclusive beach area. Several luxury hotels with private beaches are located in this area along the seaside boulevard.

At least two gunmen approached the unidentified victim and fired multiple shots before fleeing toward a nearby hotel, where they sped across the water on jet skis.

By the time first responders arrived, the victim was already dead. A subsequent search by Mexican authorities yielded no results.

Despite the Mexican government's efforts to suppress negative news, Cancun has become a hotspot for violence in recent years as rival drug cartels battle for control of drug distribution and the lucrative sex trade. As Breitbart Texas reported, most murders occur in urban centers away from beach resorts, but murders in resort areas and inside trendy nightclubs are becoming increasingly common. .

In July, gunmen shot and killed a 12-year-old boy on vacation with his family in the same beach area. reported at that time. The boy was not targeted, but a group of gunmen on a jet ski collided with another group of gunmen, resulting in a gunfight. The culprits were from rival drug gangs competing over the local drug trade.

In August, Breitbart Texas reported that cartel gunmen threw a grenade at a luxury apartment complex called Core Towers in Cancun. Although the device did not explode, it caused widespread panic as authorities had to cordon off the area until the military could safely recover the explosive, believed to be a fragmentation grenade.
