A cat’s unexpected escape on a Southwest Airlines flight brought laughter to passengers just before Thanksgiving. The furry escapee slipped out of its carrier and started wandering down the aisle.
In the midst of the chaos, a Southwest flight attendant, seeing the cheerful kitty, scooped it up and took part in a safety demonstration, showcasing a rather unusual twist to the procedure.
The kitten seemed a bit bewildered yet relaxed as the attendants carried her down the aisle, looking for her owner. Passengers couldn’t help but chuckle, especially after seeing the amusing video shared online.
After several back-and-forth trips, the kitten’s owner finally recognized his pet, and she was safely placed back in her carrier for the flight ahead.
This distinctive event was caught on camera by passenger Jason Thompson, who shared it just as people were traveling in high numbers. Commenters on social media were entertained by the sight, with one joking that the cat was just “checking the tray table” before landing.
Another user reflected on how “cats are better behaved than most people” on flights these days, while another expressed a playful wish that such occurrences would happen on their flights.
Southwest Airlines allows pet cats on domestic flights for a fee of $125 each way, as long as they are over eight weeks old and fit in a specific carrier that can go under the seat.
While many flights involving cats typically go off without a hitch, there have been hiccups. For example, last December, a woman reported that her kitten was taken off a Southwest flight after she had an accident during a rough landing, leading to the airline offering her a travel voucher for future use.
