Charlamagne Reacts to Trump’s National Guard Deployment Amid Riots
Radio host Charlamagne Tha God expressed his surprise regarding the violence that prompted President Donald Trump to send the National Guard to Los Angeles during unrest over ICE actions.
Riots broke out on Friday in the Los Angeles area following an incident involving ICE, sparking violent confrontations between federal immigration agents and protesters, as noted by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). On the “Breakfast Club,” Charlamagne mentioned that prior to the arrival of the National Guard on Sunday, he hadn’t noticed any significant violence.
“Trump really wasted time with all the worst things people thought. You can’t put your troops on protesters,” Charlamagne remarked. “Did I miss something? Wasn’t it peaceful? We didn’t hear about the trouble until the National Guard showed up.”
Co-Host DJ Envy chimed in, recalling seeing a video where “protesters threw rocks and bricks at the car,” mentioning that he initially thought those in the vehicle were ICE agents.
Even with mentions of violence, Charlamagne continued to question the decision. “But did they ask for the National Guard?” he wondered.
ICE operations have led to the arrests of over 100 undocumented immigrants, including gang members and those allegedly linked to drug trafficking, which has heightened tension. Trump announced the deployment of 2,000 National Guard troops after two days of unrest.
DHS released a statement on Saturday accusing rioters of attacking ICE officers and causing damage to property funded by taxpayers.
Despite the chaos, mainstream media have tended to avoid labeling these events as “riots,” opting instead for the term “protests.”
The confrontations between federal agents and protesters escalated on Saturday, resulting in fires, damaged property, and injuries.
The White House stated that the National Guard was deployed to address “lawlessness that had festered” in California.
