CMPD Chief Johnny Jennings said at a news conference Tuesday that more than 100 shots were fired between the suspects inside the home and responding officers on Monday. Investigators recovered an AR-15 and a .40 caliber handgun from the scene.
Terry Clark Hughes Jr., 39, fired shots at officers from the front and back from the second floor of his Galway Drive home Monday, Jennings said, and died at the scene. Two additional persons of interest, both female and one just 17 years old, were taken into custody. Authorities have not yet determined whether there are any additional suspects who may be charged in connection with the shooting.

Hughes has an “extensive” criminal history in multiple counties and has spent significant time in prison, according to North Carolina state records and Chief Jennings.
It is unclear at this time whether other shooters were involved or if other charges will be announced.
