Chennedy Carter’s quest for a stable team seems to continue without luck.
On Tuesday, the Aces announced they had waived Carter after she played in 13 games this season, marking her search for a new team for the fifth time in the last six years.
Originally a first-round pick in 2020, Carter gained notoriety a couple of years ago when she delivered a shoulder check to rookie Caitlin Clark of the Fever, earning a flagrant foul.
That incident kind of encapsulates Carter’s journey so far—a mix of intense plays, suspensions, and injuries.
She began her career with the Dream in 2020, averaging 17.4 points per game, but fell short of winning Rookie of the Year due to the shortened season caused by the pandemic.
In her second season, Carter played only 11 games because of an elbow injury and faced an indefinite suspension for what was termed “conduct detrimental to the team.”
At 28 years old, she was traded to the Sparks before the 2022 season but only started two games before being benched for similar conduct issues.
Then, in 2024, the Sky offered her a chance after she was let go from her previous contract in 2023, and she averaged a career-high 17.5 points per game, despite racking up a league-leading four major fouls.
That notable foul against Clark was one of those incidents that made teams wary of her.
After being let go again in 2025, Carter joined the Aces, seemingly on track to revitalize her career. She had a strong start, scoring in double figures in her first seven games, including a peak performance of 27 points on May 13 against the Suns.
In May alone, she averaged 17.5 points per game with an impressive 65.1 percent shooting rate.
However, in the five games that followed, her numbers dropped significantly to 3.8 points per game with a shooting percentage of just 35.3.
Carter missed the first three games of June due to a foot injury, and upon returning, she struggled to contribute, eventually missing five more games due to illness.
Interestingly, the Aces haven’t seemed affected by her declining performance; they hold a solid record of 10-3 since June 1, with an impressive offensive rating of 112.5, ranking fourth in the WNBA.
