Issue: Illinois Governor JB Pritzker’s resistance to National Guard deployment in Chicago.
Over Labor Day weekend, Chicago—a city with a population about a third of New York’s—saw 54 shootings (“Chi-Town Hell”, September 2).
Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker, along with Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson, is preparing to sue the Trump administration if the National Guard is sent to restore order in the city.
Their goal seems to be preserving control over Chicago, as they are concerned the National Guard’s presence might exacerbate the situation.
Governor Pritzker commented that if the National Guard arrived, he “would not stand by idly.”
This suggests he prefers to protect criminals harming residents rather than acknowledge the need for assistance.
Some might wonder why Democrats are opposing President Trump on crime issues. Do they really want to see crime rates rise?
If Democrats were strategic—though that might be asking a lot—they could push Trump to tackle the crime issue. If he fails, they gain leverage; if he succeeds, well, it puts them in a tough spot.
The party’s resistance to Trump seems almost like fighting for the sake of it, without any tangible benefits.
The only individuals truly at risk from the National Guard are criminals and undocumented immigrants.
If Pritzker and California Governor Gavin Newsom—both potential 2028 Democratic presidential contenders—were to acknowledge the role of criminals and immigrants in electoral outcomes, it might indicate a serious disconnect from reality.
Perhaps it’s time for Democrats to rethink their leadership choices, focusing more on the needs of American citizens rather than on importing issues from abroad.
President Trump has made noticeable progress in lowering violent crime in America, which should be recognized across the political spectrum.
Why do we allow such prevalent issues of crime and lawlessness in our society?
Lawmakers need to step up without yielding to criminal leniency.
Issue: President Trump revokes former Vice President Kamala Harris’ Secret Service details.
President Trump’s decision to revoke Secret Service details for Kamala Harris—or any previous officials—seems questionable (“Don cuts Cam security details,” August 30).
There are people who pose a threat, and if something were to happen, it would reflect poorly on Trump.
He should remember his role as the “President of Peace,” aiming to protect all Americans from danger.
It’s intriguing to consider what thoughts might race through Trump’s mind, especially when he seemingly backtracks regarding security for Harris.
Trump needs to fully appreciate the dangers he is creating for her, especially in light of ongoing gun violence and the fervor of his supporters.
In essence, he seems to be putting her in harm’s way.
