A Chicago man was arrested Monday after HVAC workers found suspicious items, including guns, explosives and fake identification, in his Bronzeville apartment.
The contractor said her heating and air conditioning company had told residents that workers would be entering the apartment, but when she entered the room in the Lake Meadows building at 533 East 33rd Place, she was greeted with a terrifying sight. encounter, WLS-TV said. reported.
“I had the master key, so I went in there and noticed a lot of things, and I thought, “That doesn't seem right,” said HVAC employee Melissa Caraway. .
“We found C4 explosives, rifles, a lot of fake IDs, a lot of firefighter stuff, a lot of police stuff, and it just looked fake,” Caraway added.
Carraway said she didn't know what to do at first, but immediately called the Chicago Police Department (CPD). From there, CPD's bomb squad was called in to clear the apartment.
“I just wanted to call and make sure because I was kind of scared because of the bombings in New Orleans and Las Vegas,” Caraway exclaimed.
Tuesday, WBBM-TV reported Kameron Younger, 36, was arrested and charged with misdemeanor possession of ammunition without a valid license.
The CPD bomb squad said the apartment had been cleared of all hazardous materials and was safe. Authorities have not said whether the explosives were real or physical.
