Chicago man charged with reportedly crashing SUV into ICE agent's truck

Incident During Operation Midway Blitz in Chicago

Recent video footage captures a Chicago man, Diego Emmanuel Reyes, allegedly using his SUV as a weapon during a violent confrontation with an ICE agent’s vehicle. This incident reportedly took place on October 4, 2025, amid a police operation known as Operation Midway Blitz.

The 21-year-old Reyes has been indicted by a federal grand jury on several charges, including assault and obstruction of a federal officer. If convicted, he faces up to 20 years behind bars.

Details of the Attack

Prosecutors claim that Reyes deliberately crashed into a white pickup truck occupied by the ICE agent. Following the initial collision, they allege that he accelerated, forcefully pushing the agent’s vehicle. This bold assault occurred during a police raid in a neighborhood on Chicago’s Southwest Side.

Federal authorities have expressed strong disapproval of this act, reiterating their commitment to confronting violence directed at law enforcement. “This defendant’s actions were a dangerous and brazen act of violence against federal employees and an attack on the rule of law,” said U.S. Attorney Andrew Boutros. He emphasized that such behavior will not be tolerated.

Broader Context of Violence

Douglas DePodesta, head of the FBI’s Chicago office, affirmed their dedication to accountability. He mentioned that the agency has zero tolerance for interference with federal officers performing their duties. This sentiment reflects a growing concern over safety, as reports indicate a significant increase in assaults on ICE agents during operations.

The indictment includes heightened penalties for using a deadly weapon, in this case, the SUV, which could increase the maximum sentence to 20 years. As of now, no arraignment date has been set in Chicago federal court.
