China is leveraging artificial intelligence to conduct disinformation campaigns targeting voters in the United States, Taiwan, and other countries, according to a recent cybersecurity investigation by Microsoft and U.S. officials.

The US intelligence community’s annual Global Threat Report also highlighted China’s growing ability to conduct covert influence operations and spread disinformation. The report said China is “experimenting with generative AI” and stepping up efforts to shape U.S. discourse on issues such as Hong Kong and Taiwan.
