Chris Pine had $400 worth of overdraft fees before scoring ‘earth-shattering’ ‘Princess Diaries’ check

Pine was cast as Hathaway’s love interest in the sequel to the hugely popular 2001 film The Princess Diaries, starring Anne Hathaway and Julie Andrews.

“I was driving down the highway and I was in my 1972 BMW…I had owned it since I was 16 years old,” he recalled of the situation. “There was no air conditioning there. It was the height of summer, and I was getting off at Magnolia. I was using my tiny little Verizon flip phone, and I got a call from an agent saying I had booked a job. I did.”

“I pulled up on the side of the freeway and they said, ‘Your salary is $65,000,’ and it was like someone telling me I made $50 million. It was a real eye-opener. did.”

Pine explained that the situation is bleak at this point.

“I had an overdraft on my bank account, about $400 over. I was going to beg my parents for money,” he said with a laugh. “And I took that $65,000, and at that moment I knew my life had changed in some way.”

Pine is still active as an actor, and recently made his directorial debut with “Pool Man.” It premiered at the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival. The film, which also stars Pine, will be released in the US on May 10th.
