The San Francisco 49ers may have something a little different going for them this season. They’ve reached two Super Bowls this decade, and their 6-1 start has put them back in the conversation as a possible contender.
Christian McCaffrey is wary of comparing one team with another, but he says the 49ers’ experience is a real advantage. The franchise has kept much of the same core in its front office, coaching staff and roster.
McCaffrey told OutKick that he values the team’s maturity. Though the roster is sometimes described as old, he sees that experience as a strength. Many players have faced the league’s highs and setbacks, he said, which helps them stay steady after both wins and losses. There’s a professionalism in the locker room, he added, and players understand what they need to do.
That mindset also helps the team tune out outside opinions. McCaffrey said the 49ers heard doubts about their age during the offseason, only to be praised after their strong start. Rather than ride those swings in public opinion, the team is focused on playing well.
At 30, McCaffrey remains a key player in his 10th NFL season. He credits consistency, not a quick fix, for supporting his health and performance. Getting outside, staying active and maintaining healthy habits all matter, he said, along with training, recovery, nutrition, sleep and managing stress.
