“The same way he chased her. [former Democratic nominee] “Hillary Clinton… she was a very polarizing figure in 2016, and in some ways the public, I don't know why, kind of accepted his harsh attacks on her. If he were to use that same tactic against Kamala Harris, I think it would bounce back hard on him,” Todd said. “So that's my view. I think his inability to not attack her personally, to not be able to restrain himself in that way, is his biggest risk here.”

Trump called Clinton a “nasty bitch” during the third presidential debate in 2016. According to The former president also Referenced During the 2016 campaign, he called Hillary Clinton “Cricky Hillary.”

Former CNN political analyst Chris Cillizza said Friday he thinks Harris will get more attention than Trump in the debate.

“I think she has a better chance…Trump's approval rating is very high at the low end and very low at the high end, basically hovering between 46% and 48%,” Cillizza said. “It's not going to get to 52% or 51%. It's not going to get to 40%. So I don't know how his approval rating is going to move. I think she's going to move more in that regard.”

Harris' campaign instituted a microphone muting rule on Wednesday at the request of the Trump campaign, similar to what CNN implemented during her debate with Biden on June 27. Trump has asked for two more debates with Harris, but only the ABC debate is officially scheduled.

Both Adrienne Elrod, a senior spokesman for the Harris campaign, and Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro recently pointed to Trump's skill and experience level and warned against “underestimating” his performance in the debate.

Harris is leading Trump by just 0.1 percentage points in seven key battleground states. According to RealClearPolling average. The former president is leading Harris nationally, 48% to 47%. According to According to a New York Times/Siena College Sunday poll conducted Sept. 3-6.
