Pomona City Issues Apology Over Inappropriate Images in Recreation Guide

On Monday, city officials in Pomona, California, expressed their regret after a local legislator revealed that some summer recreation guides sent to residents included pornographic images.

The city acknowledged that the materials “should not have been published” in these guides, which were distributed to families. They clarified that the inclusion of such content was not “intentional” and that an investigation is currently in progress. City Councilman Victor Preciado noted that after a local couple raised concerns by providing copies, they confirmed via text that some guides contained inappropriate images.

“The City of Pomona understands that some copies of the Recreation Guide recently mailed out may contain inappropriate images that should not have appeared in materials distributed to the community. We assure the public that this was not intentional and that these materials are not authorized for publication in the Recreation Guide,” the city stated. They expressed a sincere apology to the community, particularly to families and children who might have been impacted, and emphasized that this content does not align with the city’s values.

The city mentioned that they have halted any further distribution of the guide and are collaborating with their publishing and printing partners to find out how this situation occurred. There is a commitment to pinpointing the cause and implementing preventive measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Pomona Assistant City Manager Mark Gruba informed the San Bernardino Sun that the guide was intended to promote city activities, not adult content. He didn’t provide specific numbers but indicated that only a limited number of guides were affected.

“Our Community Services Department is responsible for approving the Recreation Guide and final proofs. According to our vendor, US Printing, the error did not stem from their print shop. Hence, the city is looking into the possibility that an unauthorized individual may have produced and mailed incorrect materials,” Gruba noted in an email.

He added that the city is currently working with U.S. printing facilities in Montclair and Chino. They are in touch with the vendor, who has mentioned that both locations are involved in printing, but it’s uncertain whether the improper version was printed there or elsewhere.

Additionally, as of Tuesday, Gruba indicated that the city has received a crime report and is awaiting the arrival of the Pomona Police Department, which will coordinate the investigation alongside the U.S. Postal Inspection Service.

Interestingly, the online version of the summer leisure guide does not seem to contain any pornographic images.

The Daily Caller reached out to Pomona officials and the police department, but neither had immediate comments regarding the situation.
