One of former President Donald Trump’s fiercest critics has questioned whether other defendants were indicted in the hush money case.
CNN anchor Fareed Zakaria acknowledged this fact while assessing the political headwinds posed by Trump’s indictment.
“The trial against [Trump] Keeping him in the spotlight and infuriating his base of supporters, they see him as a martyr and earn him some sympathy among the public who believe his prosecutors are politically motivated. “It may help target people,” the host said in his monologue at the beginning of the show. Sunday’s “Fareed Zakaria: GPS.”
“In my opinion, this happens to be true. I don’t believe an indictment in New York could have been filed against a defendant with a name other than Donald Trump.”
Mr Zakaria also said: A CNN poll revealed that Fifty-six percent of Americans say they doubt Trump will receive a fair trial.
The foreign policy buff declined to go into detail about why he believes no one other than Trump was indicted in the hush-money case.
His remarks came during an extensive monologue he delivered. President Biden’s position was as follows: He will likely be much weaker in the 2024 presidential campaign than he originally thought.
Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg (D) is leading the hush money lawsuit.
Trump, 77, is on trial on 34 criminal charges for allegedly forging business documents to hide hush-money payments to suppress negative publicity about him.
That includes money sent last week to porn star Stormy Daniels, who testified last week about her arrangement with the 45th president and an alleged affair in the mid-2000s.
Prosecutors allege the document falsification was done to hide more serious crimes, including campaign finance violations.
The Manhattan District Attorney’s Office first began investigating the matter in 2018, and while the statute of limitations has technically expired, prosecutors have sought to sacrifice or overcome it.
President Trump has denied wrongdoing and maintained his innocence, as he has in all 88 criminal charges, including four indictments against him.
Zakaria has long been a critic of Trump and has publicly acknowledged that he is rooting for Biden, 81, to win the presidential rematch on November 5th.
