Connor McDavid’s fiancée ‘heartbroken’ over Stanley Cup loss

Connor McDavid was the epitome of heartbreak on Monday night after the Oilers lost to the Panthers in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final.

His sadness was clear even as he sat on the Oilers bench with his head bowed and waited for all his teammates to leave the ice after the postgame handshake line.

But he wasn’t the only one disappointed by the Game 7 loss. McDavid’s fiancée, Lauren Kyle, expressed her “heartbreak” on Instagram and thanked Edmonton fans for their support throughout the playoffs.

“My heart aches [as] “I’m so grateful to be here in Edmonton with this group,” she wrote on her Instagram Story. “I’m so proud of all we’ve accomplished this year, win or lose. It’s been so amazing to see our fans travel all over the continent to support our team. We have the best fans in the league and no one deserves it more. I’m bringing this joy to Canada soon!”

The Oilers became the latest Canadian team to fail to break the country’s streak of not winning a Stanley Cup since the Canadiens won in 1993.

The Flames (2004), Oilers (2007), Canucks (2011) and Canadiens (2021) all lost to various American-based teams.

“It’s terrible,” McDavid said simply about how he felt after the Game 7 loss.

“We knew it was going to be close. Game Seven with the Cup on the line,” McDavid said. “We knew it was going to be really close. It was going to come down to one thing here and there.”

The NHL superstar, who won the Conn Smythe Trophy as the playoff most valuable player, and his fiancée have been together for over eight years and got engaged a little over a year ago on June 22, 2023.

“Words can’t express how happy I am that we can spend the rest of our lives together.” Kyle wrote: Part of the post announcing the couple’s engagement.

But McDavid will have to wait before getting another ring.
