Controversial Socialist Leader Nicolás Maduro Taken Into Custody Before Confronting ‘Full Force Of American Justice’

Maduro Captured and Imprisoned in NYC

Former Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro was taken into custody by U.S. forces in Caracas and arrived at a New York City jail late Saturday. He now faces four criminal charges, including conspiracy to commit narco-terrorism.

A brief video shared by a White House rapid response account captured Maduro saying “good night” in both English and Spanish, along with a “Happy New Year.” This marks his first comments since his detention in the U.S.

Interestingly, another recent addition to MDC Brooklyn is a 27-year-old named Luigi Mangione, who was charged in December 2024 for the murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson. This facility has housed several high-profile inmates in the past, including Ghislaine Maxwell, rapper Sean “Diddy” Combs, and cryptocurrency fraudster Sam Bankman-Fried.

Combs’ attorney recently expressed concerns over the conditions at MDC Brooklyn, an issue that Maxwell had also raised during her bail hearing. Reports suggest inmates have faced difficulties, including encounters with aggressive security staff and pervasive rodent issues.

A detailed 25-page indictment from the Southern District of New York unveiled numerous charges against Maduro and five associates, including his wife and key political allies. The indictment alleges that Maduro led a “culture of corruption” in Venezuela, profiting from drug trafficking alongside powerful elites.

Furthermore, it accused Maduro and his co-defendants of funneling drug profits to support various criminal organizations, notably Mexican drug cartels and Colombian guerrillas.

Notably, many Democratic leaders criticized the Trump administration’s actions to detain Maduro, labeling it as an “act of war” against a leader they considered illegitimate. Thankfully, no American lives were lost during the operation.
