The Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) has denied accreditation to a number of media organizations seeking to cover its annual convention in suburban Washington, D.C., this weekend.
meanwhile Interview with Conservative podcaster and former White House chief of staff Steve Bannon and committee chairman Matt Schlapp insisted media passes would not be issued to journalists deemed “left-wing.”
“If you’re a propaganda worker, you can buy a ticket like anyone else, but you’re not a media person. We qualify by saying you’re a media person. I don’t intend to,” he said.
Schlapp reiterated that idea in his first speech from the CPAC stage on Thursday.
Reporters from The Washington Post and Huffington Post were denied access to the event. First reported by Semaphore.
Journalists from The Hill were eligible to cover CPAC this year, but conference representatives declined to provide a list of media outlets that were granted passes and those that were denied passes.
Media attention for CPAC is expected to increase throughout the week, with former President Trump scheduled to speak at Saturday’s event.
