Andrew Cuomo Issues Warning to New York Voters as Early Voting Starts
As early voting kicks off, mayoral candidate Andrew Cuomo has delivered a stern message to New Yorkers: there should be real concern if his opponent, Zoran Mamdani, claims victory. “New Yorkers are afraid. That’s why you see such high turnout, and they should be afraid,” Cuomo stated on “America’s Newsroom.”
Cuomo, who previously served as governor, is facing a tight race against Mamdani, the Democratic candidate, and Curtis Sliwa, a Republican. Throughout his campaign, Cuomo has made it clear he disagrees with Mamdani’s socialist policies.
An ongoing poll indicates that while Mamdani’s lead has decreased as Election Day approaches, he still holds a 16-point advantage. Nevertheless, Cuomo argues that the significant early voting turnout points to his success.
Cuomo has consistently expressed concerns about Mamdani’s inexperience and proposals, suggesting that they could jeopardize New York’s economy. He voiced these apprehensions during a visit to Harlem, predicting dire consequences should Mamdani win. “I don’t think New York City has a future if Zoran Mamdani is elected mayor,” he remarked, emphasizing the ideological differences: “He’s a Democratic socialist, and I’m an independent Democrat.”
Cuomo criticized Mamdani’s previous remarks regarding law enforcement, calling them detrimental to public safety. Mamdani has since apologized for past comments made in 2020, which labeled the New York City Police Department as “racist, anti-gay, and a serious threat to public safety.”
The election reflects deeper divisions within the Democratic Party, according to Cuomo. “We have had a long-simmering battle within the Democratic Party, where there is a far left,” he noted. He identifies himself as a moderate Democrat and portrays the election as a clash between mainstream and extreme viewpoints.
Attempting to gain traction with moderate and Republican voters, Cuomo has urged Sliwa to drop out of the race to boost his own chances. Polls indicate that this strategy might be working, but he still trails behind Mamdani.
With the election looming and early voting in progress, Cuomo made a final plea to voters, declaring, “New York City’s future is at stake.” He underscored the need for law and order, public safety, and job creation in New York, asserting, “I’m tried and proven. I represent all New Yorkers, Democrats, Republicans, independents. That doesn’t matter to me. I represent all New Yorkers.”
