Dallas Cowboys' Cheerleaders: Kelli Finglass and Judy Trammell expressed pride in the team as they sought a pay raise

DCC is back for Season 2 of American Lover: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader, a series that dives into the auditions, training camp, and the upcoming Dallas Cowboys’ 2024-2025 season. Directed and produced by Greg Whiteley, it features Kelly Finglass and Judy Trammel, who have longstanding roles within the organization.

Both Finglass and Trammel are known for their straightforward and sometimes blunt leadership style. However, they also have a nurturing side, especially towards the women they mentor. “I’ve always wanted the girls to love us; that was really important to me,” Trammel shared. Finglass emphasizes that a big part of their role is fostering a supportive team environment during the ups and downs of the season. “They’ve really come together this year,” she said, noting how that camaraderie has bolstered their strength.

This season highlights the team’s fight for better wages, led by veterans Jada McLean and Armani Latimer. They faced challenges while dealing with HR but ultimately succeeded, which is a positive change for future cheerleaders. Finglass expressed pride in their efforts, stating, “The whole organization wants them to feel valued.” For both women, it’s crucial that the members feel “happy” and “productive.”

Finglass and Trammel connected with Decider via Zoom to explore the new season, including an unexpected moment with Chandi Dayle and a memorable performance by Kacey Musgraves.

Kelly, how did filming Season 2 affect the training camp experience?

Kelli Finglass: Honestly, we’re used to cameras. Greg’s team is good at being present without getting in the way, so it’s not too disruptive. We have a lot to accomplish during our three-hour rehearsals, and we appreciate that the filming process doesn’t slow us down too much.

Judy, how do you juggle multiple commitments while focusing on DCC?

Judy Trammell: Our season is always about facing the next challenge. We didn’t have time to enjoy the first season since we were busy with auditions and other activities. Even while touring Texas, we were looking at hundreds of applicants online. The work just keeps on coming.

Kelly, what do you think this season’s legacy will be like for DCC?

KF: Each year we have a hashtag that acts as the team’s theme. This year, it’s #United. They’ve really shown unity in various situations, and I believe that has strengthened them.

Judy, after so many years with the DCC, you mentioned not wanting to be remembered for just hard work, but for your warmth. Were you surprised at how vulnerable you’ve become?

JT: I think it’s always been there. I’ve always wanted to foster love within the team, and I’ve let myself be a bit more open this year.

Kelly, did Judy’s openness catch you off guard?

KF: Not really. I know her core is about harmony. Her job may require her to be commanding, but her natural inclination is more peaceful. Wouldn’t you agree?

JT: I just want everyone to get along and have a good time! [laughs]

Judy, you mentioned that veteran cheerleader Chandi faced challenges this season. Was her last year especially tough for you?

JT: It was tough for everyone. But we have a connection with Chandi, and we understand the difficulties she faced. She’s been with us for six years, and while she had some bumps, we still have great respect for her.

Kelly, how did it feel to watch Chandi take the field one last time?

KF: It’s always bittersweet. When you see dedicated performers like Chandi, Jada, and Armani deciding to step away, it tugs at your heart. It’s a tough goodbye.

Kelly, you must have been thrilled to see the team get fair compensation. What was that moment like for you?

KF: I felt immense pride. The organization genuinely wants them to feel appreciated, and it’s important for them to feel that they are valued members of the team.

Judy, after a disappointing season last year, is it hard for the team to cheer when the morale is low?

JT: That could be true, but I think this season has highlighted their resilience. Despite last year’s setbacks, they managed to stay positive and performed well. It can be challenging, but they showed up with smiles.

Kelly, as a huge Kacey Musgraves fan, what was it like to see the team perform during her tour?

KF: I think the connection is special since we both come from East Texas. Kacey is not only a phenomenal artist but also a dear friend. The performance was incredible, though we had a packed schedule that day, including a Christmas show. But it was totally worth it, and I hope we’ll collaborate more in the future.

Do you have a favorite Kacey Musgraves song?

KF: I love all her songs, but “Rainbow” really speaks to me. It was a beautiful moment at the concert. “Merry-Go-Round” also resonates with me, as her music brings back memories of home.
