David Ortiz: Red Sox owner John Henry concerned about the future of the team

David Ortiz Discusses Red Sox Owner’s Concerns

Red Sox icon David Ortiz recently shared with The Associated Press that, regardless of the team’s poor performance, owner John Henry genuinely cares about the franchise’s future.

Ortiz noted that Henry is “concerned” and mentioned they had a conversation about the team’s struggles in the AL East.

“He understands where this team is headed and genuinely cares more than many realize,” Ortiz remarked while speaking at his celebrity golf event.

Currently, the Red Sox are languishing at the bottom of their division, with a record of 25 wins to 33 losses.

“He’s worried. We talked about it. I get it; I’ve known John a long time. He’s worried about the whole team, and he’s not alone—[chairman] Tom Warner and everyone else are doing their best to improve the situation,” Ortiz elaborated.

This season has certainly been challenging for Boston, highlighted by a major shake-up in April when the coaching staff was overhauled, resulting in the dismissal of manager Alex Cora along with five other coaches.

“During our discussion, John expressed his determination to find a way back to the glory days. He hasn’t given up,” Ortiz said. “Sometimes, people don’t grasp how tough this sport can be, and it’s hard to keep going.”

Fans of the Red Sox, who celebrated four World Series victories from 2004 to 2018, are feeling increasingly frustrated with the current season’s results.

Last month, a plane even flew over Fenway Park, urging the ownership group to sell the team.

“When you’re worried, it covers everything. You’re concerned about the team, the fans, and how things are functioning overall,” Ortiz commented. “Rest assured, my boss is committed to working hard to fix things here for the future.”

Only time will show if Ortiz’s faith in Henry and the Red Sox’s ownership team can lead to significant improvements.
